09/08/2020 - Sunday spins and racing
It’s been a very busy week for Emyvale CC.
Paul Brady was racing on Tuesday in Scraghey GP where he came second to Vitus Pro Cycling's Darnel Moore. On Wednesday evening Paul took the victory in the round 3 race in the Lakeland CC league.
On Thursday evening the club held the final round 6 in its TT league. I’ll detail that in another post.
On Saturday evening, James McKenny raced in Kilmessan, Co. Meath in the Beechmount Cup. He came in with the bunch in what was reported as a very fast paced race. Here is his report “Stayed with the bunch until final kilometres on Saturday evening. Very fast and not all the A1/A2 made the breakaway”. James raced again in Kilmessan this morning for the Collins Christie Memorial A4 race and was joined by Gary Treanor and Karl Atkinson. There was an unfortunate crash on the finish line of the race, but Gary managed to come home in the top ten. In the A3 race, Dara McKenna and Declan McEntee were contesting and finished in the bunch. All riders returned home safely.
This morning approx. 15 riders left Sams at 7:30am for the early loop (30kms) and joined the touring and race groups for their spins at 9am. The race group left Emyvale for Glaslough, Caledon, Armagh, Markethill via Drumgaw Rd., Newtownhamilton (coffee stop), Keady, The Green Lane, Castleshane and home. An additional 90kms.
The touring group started with the same route but went to Armagh via Tynan, then direct to Newtownhamilton (coffee stop), followed by a descent to Castleblaney and back home via Clontibrit. 90kms too.
The leisure group gathered in Tydavnet at 7am for a long journey to Carrick-On-Shannon and back. A total in excess of over 200kms. Congratulations on an epic ride.
