16/08/2020 - Sunday spins and racing
It was grey, but dry and warm this morning as approx. 40 riders met up for the Sunday club spins. The early group left Sam’s Diner at 7:30am for the usual 40km loop. The race and touring groups both went from Emyvale to Glaslough, Pipers Bridge, Castleshane, Braddox, Ballybay, Latton, Cootehill (coffee stop), Rockcorry, Monaghan and home. 85kms. The leisure group went from Emyvale to Glaslough, Pipers Bridge, Castleshane, Clontibrit, Castleblaney, Ballybay (coffee stop), Newbliss, Kileevan, Smithboro, Scotstown and home. 85kms.
Congratulations to Micheal Flood who completed the 600kms Mizen to Malin Head over two days with a group of colleagues from Donegal in aid of Donegal Down Syndrome. On Saturday, the Boyne GP was contested by Arron McQuaid, Declan McEntee, Dara McKenna, Barry Cassidy, Gary Treanor, Karl Atkinson and Fintan Sherry. The lads came home in the bunches in what proved to be fast and tough A4 and A3 races. Arron had a spill as a result of a blowout, but got home safely.
Kevin Joe McGuire recorded a time of 24:11 in the Ernie Magwood Super Six TT league. Well done Kevin.
Paul Brady and James McKenny contested the Leinster Autumn Classic in Bellewstown earlier today. Paul (A3) was at the sharp end of the race for the duration and came home in the lead group. Danger man James McKenny earned the bonificatin for a well deserved 6th place in the A4 race. Here is his race report. “First lap was savage. Time on the main climb was faster than the A3 race ever did. I blew up on a wee riser on the second lap, but me and another fella worked with each other for the remaining 35km and caught loads of people and ending up catching the second group on the road. Came third in the 8 man sprint”.
Next Sunday 23rd August, Emyvale CC will host the Ulster 25 mile individual TT championships over a course going from Glaslough, Crooked Bridge, Armagh Road to Silverstream, Middletown, Caledon, Aughnacloy and finishing just before the Silverhill Duck premises in Emyvale. This is a flat and rapid course that has the strong potential to produce record times. Course link: https://www.strava.com/routes/2727925399398638032
