On behalf of Emyvale Cycling Club, I would like to extend our sincere Thank You to everyone who registered for and attended the Tour of Monaghan 2026 on Sunday 14th June.

The event exceeded all expectations. As recently as last Wednesday, we had just 70 entries, but that number grew to nearly 270 riders by the time we rolled out. While that presented a significant challenge for us as organisers, we’re delighted that the day itself came together so successfully. We appreciate there were some supply shortages at a couple of food stops due to the unexpectedly high turnout, and we apologise to anyone who may have missed out. We will certainly take this on board for future events.

It was fantastic to welcome riders from 27 clubs across 15 counties. A special mention goes to our furthest traveller, Gareth McGuinness from North Wales, who cycled 30 miles to Holyhead, took the ferry to Dublin, and then cycled on to Monaghan before completing the 140km route - an incredible effort and a great example of dedication and spirit!

National Womens Sportive Series 2026

We also had 59 Women cyclists turn out and take part as part of the National Women’s Sportive Series. This is a Cycling Ireland initiative designed to promote participation and inclusivity in cycling by bringing together a series of dedicated events for women and girls across the country.

Launched in 2026, the series features events hosted by clubs in each province, with multiple distance options to cater for cyclists of all abilities, from beginners to experienced riders.

The National Women’s Sportive Series is held across all four provinces of Ireland, with The Tour of Monaghan 2026 hosting the Women's Sportive Series for Ulster.

Medals

We had initially ordered 150 medals based on earlier registration levels, and unfortunately, this meant some finishers did not receive one on the day. We are committed to recognising every finisher, so if you didn’t receive a medal, please Contact Us and we will arrange to have one issued to you.

And Finally...

We would like to thank all those who made the event possible. Our volunteers and ride leaders played a vital role in ensuring everything ran smoothly. We are also extremely grateful to our lead-out moto marshals, broom wagon drivers, our ECC own Events Management Committee, Applegreen in Clones for hosting the water and food stop, An Garda Síochána for traffic management, Monaghan County Council, Cycling Ireland, Danny Dundee for PR support, St Mellans for the use of their facilities, and the local communities for their cooperation as the event passed through towns and villages.

Our thanks also go to Alan Bingham for the medals, Eamon Treanor (TCS Trade Sales Ltd) for sponsoring them, The Spin Doctor for the gels, Smiths Catering in Ballyconnell, Martin Kilpatrick Kilpatrick Butchers Scotstown for the burgers, Green Fingers Garden Centre Monaghan for their ongoing support, to Gerry Mullin Car & Van Hire for the use of his refrigerated van (which he has very kindly done for the last 5+ years), and to the Red Cross Monaghan for their professionalism and diligence throughout the day. Thankfully, despite the large numbers, the event passed off without any accidents, which is a testament to everyone involved.

Thank you once again to all who took part - we hope to see you again next year!

Kind Regards,

The Emyvale Cycling Club Committee
