At 10am Saturday, families from all over the North and South border counties gathered at the Memorial Garderns in Omagh to gratefully receive some very special trikes which were generously donated by Variety - The Childrens Charity of Ireland. The event was launched by former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and was aimed at creating a cross border networking group between the various represented disability cycling groups across 12 border counties North and South.
Emyvale CC was introduced to the scheme by Louth Disability Cycling Club, which is the only dedicated Disability Cycling Club on the island of Ireland. Our chosen partner charity is Errigal Truagh Special Needs Parents & Friends Ltd. Errigal Truagh Special Needs, is a day activation centre for adults with intellectual & physical disabilities, but they also work with children in the evenings. The special disability Tomcat trike, worth almost €5,000 will get plenty of use from the kids in Errigal Truagh Special Needs. Ride on!!
Special guests in attendance representing Errigal Truagh Special Needs at the ceremony were Joanna McGrath with her son Connor and Grainne McElvaney with her son Sonny. As the photos show, Conor in particular had a warm reception for Bertie.
