Launch of Couch to 50km!

Couch-to-50km: 21st April - 2nd June 2026

Emyvale Cycling Club are excited to kick off our Couch‑to‑50km initiative for 2026 — an 8‑week program (starting Tuesday 21 April 2026 and finishing Tuesday 02 June 2026) designed to help people of any age, fitness level, or cycling ability, build the confidence and stamina to complete a 50km ride.

Cycling is a fantastic way to improve fitness, facilitate weight‑loss, boost mental wellbeing, acquire new skills, social interactions and enjoy the fresh air and scenery.

In addition, the guidance and support provided by a local cycling club and its experience cyclists provides great encouragement, structure, and fun throughout the whole experience.

Week 1: Bike Checks - Tuesday 21st April (Glennon Church car park)

Your journey begins with making sure your bike is safe and road‑ready.

We kick off with professional bike checks carried out by very own Spin Doctor - Marc Andrews, who will inspect brakes, gears, tyres, and overall bike setup to ensure you are roadworthy and safe.

No cycling this week — just preparation and confidence‑building.

Week 2: Cycling Skills Session - Tuesday 28th April (Glennon Church car park)

Before hitting the road, we spend a session on essential cycling skills:

  • Starting and stopping safely

  • Cornering

  • Signalling

  • Group riding etiquette

  • Balance and bike handling

This clinic will be supervised by The Spin Doctor (Marc Andrews) and our experienced Group Ride Leaders.

Week 3: First Road Ride (Tuesday 28 April 2026)

Your first real spin on the road!  We start you off gently with a short, easy‑paced road ride.  No pressure.  No rush.  Just getting used to the bike, the roads, and the group.

Weeks 4–7: Building up the distance

Each week, the distance increases gradually:

  • Exploring scenic local routes

  • Mixing flat stretches with a few gentle hills

  • Developing fitness, stamina, and confidence

  • Learning how to ride safely in a group

You’ll enjoy varied landscapes, routes, and plenty of encouragement along the way.

A full rota of experienced Emyvale Cycling Club Group Ride Leaders will support you throughout - ensuring a safe, enjoyable, confidence‑building experience.

Week 8: The Big One: Your First 50km! (Tuesday 02 June 2026)

By the end of the Couch-to-50km program, you will complete a full 50km ride.  A very achievable milestone for any beginner with steady weekly progress.

What to expect:

  • A huge sense of achievement

  • Improve fitness, stamina, and bike handling

  • Build confidence riding on the road

  • Pride in your progress

  • Meet new people

  • Ride in a supportive group

  • Better cycling skills

  • And plenty of memories

This isn’t a race.  It’s a personal journey — and we’re with you every pedal stroke...
