The road racing season kicked off with gusto on Saturday, 28th February 2026, with the traditional opener in Annaclone hosted by Banbridge CC. For once, riders were treated to dry conditions - making for a far more enjoyable experience and contributing to a blisteringly fast pace from the outset.

Emyvale CC’s Declan McEntee lined up in the C1/C2 race, marking his first event since being upgraded to the highly competitive C2 category. After a strong 2025 season, Declan had earned more than enough points to move up a grade, and Annaclone offered the perfect stage for his debut.

The race exploded into action from the gun, with relentless pace and attacking riding throughout. A decisive group eventually broke clear in the latter stages, and the win went to Ronan McLaughlin of Foyle CC, who showed his experience by edging out Oisín Ferrity for the victory.

A great opening weekend of racing and a promising beginning to Declan’s campaign in the C2 ranks

Declan delivered an excellent first performance at C2 level, riding strongly throughout and finishing safely in the bunch - an encouraging start to his season and a solid marker for what lies ahead.

A great opening weekend of racing and a promising beginning to Declan’s campaign in the C2 ranks. Roll on the next one!
